Our team currently operates from virtual, home-based offices, with the opportunity to work in a Guelph-based collaborative space. We support our public and private clients in navigating regulatory processes and facilitating responsible private development and public infrastructure projects in southern Ontario. We are currently seeking a skilled Wildlife Ecologist with a minimum of 1 year of extensive field experience in the areas identified, to complete the following tasks:
1) Field inventories, data entry, and analysis.
Independently conduct Breeding Bird Surveys, Vegetation Inventories, Ecological Land Classification (ELC), Significant Wildlife Habitat, and Species at Risk Assessments.
Assist with Aquatic Assessments, Fish Rescues, Herptile Surveys, etc., as needed.
Deploy ARU devices for breeding birds, bat and amphibian surveys and interpret results.
2) Writing and contributing to Environmental and Natural Heritage Impact Studies
Communicate logically and defensibly to non-ecologists.

Describe impacts on natural features and generate practical mitigation measures.
3) Manage Client Expectations
Maintain regular communication with clients, collaborating consultants, and agency staff.
Key Competencies

Excellent Avian (sight and sound) and Vegetation Identification skills.
Working independently in a remote team environment.
Deadline driven, ensuring reports are completed and delivered on time.
Eligibility for the ECO Canada Youth in Natural Resources Program is considered an asset.

Full time, 37.5 hrs/week.
Additional hours banked above 37.5 hours, and overtime is paid following Ministry of Labour Overtime Guidelines.
Two weeks vacation.
Personal vehicle use for business purposes compensated at CRA recommended mileage rates.
Additional Benefits include:
Health Benefits, including medical and dental.
Three paid regeneration days and a minimum two paid days between Christmas and New Years.
As an employee-owned company, we offer merit-based annual bonuses based on company profits.
Working in a home-based office requires the confidence to work independently, ask questions early, communicate with your team regularly and effectively, and efficient time management.
As a skilled Ecologist, you know that travelling to remote sites during non-standard office hours is inherent in the work. The field functions of the job require lifting and carrying field equipment/samples, hearing and vision accuracy, and ability to identify and distinguish between colours. Fieldwork occurs during all four seasons in physically demanding environments like construction sites, swamps and ravines that require walking on uneven ground. You will often travel to these sites by yourself; a valid driver’s license is required.
If this sounds like a great opportunity to advance your career, please send your resume and cover letter to denise@aboudtng.com. We will respond to everyone that takes the time to submit their resume and cover letter to let you know if there is an interview in your future.
