Niagara Region retained Aboud & Associates to identify and map all natural features to the Ecological Land Classification community series level within its 1,854 km2 boundary.

Our Ecology team evaluated ~57,000 Ecological Land Classification polygons from multiple data sources and mapping standards that were over a decade old. The team developed quality control processes to identify inconsistencies, then delineated and categorized the natural features through interpretation using GIS and an extensive field verification program. Through collaboration with the region, conservation authority, and all local area municipalities, we delivered natural heritage system mapping that will support land-use planning decisions in the new Niagara Region Official Plan.
