Crafting contemporary and timeless gateway features and ensuring the survival of an endangered species.
Aboud & Associates’ Landscape Architects were retained to craft a contemporary, yet timeless, streetscape and gateway features for this 236-unit residential community in southwest Hamilton. Landscape planting features were designed based on ecological models that utilized native and drought tolerant adaptive plant species which reduced the dependency on local water resources and did not require additional resource inputs.
Our Arborists, Ecologists and Landscape Architects also collaborated to ensure the survival of an endangered species. Classified as an endangered species under Ontario’s Endangered Species Act (2007), the entire population of Butternut (Juglans cinerea) trees throughout North America is in rapid decline due to Butternut Canker disease. Following the Ministry of Natural Resources Butternut Health Assessment Protocols, our certified Butternut Health Assessors determined the health of on-site trees, prepared compensation planting plans, a multi-year intensive maintenance program, contract documents and monitoring program to aid in the survival of the species by using genetically verified pure Butternut planting stock.
