Heather is a highly knowledgeable expert in aquatic ecology, with a specific focus on fish. She earned her Bachelors degree in Biology and Earth Sciences at the University of Durham, followed by a Masters degree in Oceanography at the University of Southampton, and a Doctorate degree in Biology at the University of Waterloo.
Throughout her career, Heather has worked extensively on studies of freshwater and anadromous fish species in rivers and lakes across the East Coast and in Northern Canada, for both NGOs and academia. Her research has centered on contaminants, community composition, fish migration, and food web studies to evaluate fish population stability and provide valuable subsistence food safety information to community partners. In addition to her research, Heather is a highly regarded speaker and author, having published numerous peer-reviewed articles and presented her findings at conferences worldwide.
As a consulting aquatic ecologist, Heather provides guidance to organizations, businesses, and government agencies on managing and conserving aquatic resources, including conducting field surveys, analyzing data, and developing recommendations. She also offers technical support for regulatory compliance and develops restoration plans.
